• Calibration of the pump before every
perfusion is unnecessary unless a different type, make or size tubing is used
• The calibration should be accurate to within ± 5%
• Calibration is accomplished by setting the RPM at various speeds
and determining the output volumetrically per convenient unit time
• Calibration should only be done after achieving the proper
occlusiveness.
• Various arterial cannulae may be attached during calibration to
obtain more accuracy — but this is not necessary with modern blood pumps since
they are designed to be non-pressure dependent
