Intrinsic & Extrinsic System of normal clotting

 

            There are two basic ways in which prothrombin activator can be formed:

1) the extrinsic pathway that begins with trauma to the vascular wall or the tissues outside the blood vessels

2) by the intrinsic pathway that begins in the blood itself

            In both pathways, a series of different plasma proteins, especially beta-globulins, play major roles
