Action

• Potentiates inhibitory action of prostacyclin

• Inhibits platelet AMP phosphodiesterase

• Inhibits platelet adhesion to thrombogenic surfaces

• Inhibits platelet aggregation in vitro

• Mild vasodilator

• Selective coronary vasodilator thereby increasing oxygen delivery

Indication

• Acute & chronic coronary insufficiency

• When given orally or IV to low risk CABG patients, see a significant reduction in loss of platelet numbers during & after CPB and reduced postoperative blood loss

• In all cases where arterial platelet aggregability predisposes to thrombus formation [not effective for venous thrombosis]
